A working position
My stance on AI
I use it, find it helpful and have reservations about it. Those things do rather uncomfortably coexist.
Working in tech marketing, I don’t feel I have the option of ignoring AI. I need to understand what it can do, where it falls short and what its use means for the people doing the work.
I’ve embedded it into our agency as a supporting tool. The systems I build help with work we would already do manually: gathering context, checking progress, noticing changes and keeping people informed. Their usefulness depends on the expertise, knowledge and judgment we bring to them.
There is also a lot we don’t understand, and I’m not comfortable treating every new capability as an uncomplicated improvement. Using something doesn’t settle all the questions about it.
If these tools disappeared overnight, I could carry on doing my job. Some things would take longer. I’d still know how to run the work, edit the content and support the people involved.
This is a working position, with room to change my mind. My earlier essay on AI.
